Rome- Cooking Classes

February 2024

What to do in Rome away from the crowd.

I spend about two weeks in Rome during the month of February. We were tired of all the walking and wanted to do something away from the crowds .So I taught- What best way to learn a little more about the “Eternal city” than to learn about their cooking? My grandma always says “ food is the ways to someone’s heart” boy she did not lie.

I booked two different cooking classes , on the days that we planned to be away from the crowds and spending more relaxing.

Keep in mind we visited Rome during low season, so for both classes I booked it turned out to be just for us.( we got the private experience without booking it) it was great. However, if that is what you are looking for I recommend you book it as such, we happened to get lucky, both classes are know for being full.

Pizza making class in Trastevere, Rome

I was walking on the streets near the Trevi fountain one day when I saw a big red sign with the cooking classes information .I got intrigued and booked the pizza making class with Fabiolous Cooking Day.

We booked it at 1700 (5:00 pm) and The cost for this class was approximately €140 ($150) per person. I booked thru email, and a 50% was required as a deposit for booking. Pizza, drinks and a dessert we included. The class lasted about 2 hours between the time we started preparing the doughy until we eat and left. The building was in the beautiful area of Trastevere.

Our chef was great! He made us feel relaxed, explained everything in a way me and husband both understood it. He guided us thru making the pizza dough process. Then brought out a good variety of toppings ( no pineapples) Italians hate pineapple on pizza, he mentioned it several times. Haha. After we put the toppings we placed our pizza in the oven and waited until it was ready to eat. He prepared a dessert (a Nutella pizza) sound’s weird, might look weird but it was amazing.

After we were done with the class he gave us a little card to redeem at the owners restaurant for a little gift, to be picked up the next day. We stopped by the restaurant, picked up our gift and it was a rolling pin and a gnocchi board. Excellent gift, and great to have if My husband is not a fan of taking classes, so he was a little skeptical when I told him about it. I plan on cooking any Italian dishes.

My husband is not a fan of taking classes, so he was a little skeptical when I told him about it. But I can say he loved it more than I could ever imagine. He liked it so much he encouraged me to do another class .

Overall if you are a pizza lover, have some free time and want to enjoy it in a less crowded area l

I highly recommend booking this class. My husband is not a fan of taking classes, so he was a little skeptical when I told him about it.

Fettuccine & Tiramisù making Class in Patri, Rome

If pizza making is not your style, but you still want to take a cooking class then I recommend you try one of the pasta making classes from Eat and Walk Italy.

I booked this class thru AirBnb Experience , and I paid about €80 ($86 )per person. Instructions were super simple. I picked the 1530 (3:30PM) class. You can also book the classes directly from the website. http://www.eatandwalkitaly.it

The class was being hosted in the Oste Cavour Restaurant , right in front of the Piazza Cavour. The restaurant it self is beautiful and a nice place to have a few drinks.

There we meet our chef Carlotta ( hopefully I wrote it correctly) she was so lovely, very passionate, super knowledgeable and extremely joyful. I enjoyed learning from her. I never knew how easy it is and how flavorful it is to make your own pasta.

We started by preparing the traditional tiramisu, then we made our fettuccine pasta from scratch. While we are making the pasta, the give you 3option of sauces to mix with your pasta once cooked. I picked Cacio’e Pepe (Parmesan, Pecorino and Pepper) and my husband the Amatriciana ( tomato sauce and pork).

This class included the food we cooked ,drinks, water or wine with the dinner, our tiramisu and a shot of limoncello. Overall it was super fun doing this class, it was very well organized . The chef took pictures for us to view later, gave us a link where we were able to view not only the pasta and tiramisu recipe but a few others. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in learning how to do pasta at home. This is a great opportunity to learn about the culture and be away from the crowd of people.

I ended up making homemade pasta for my family once I flew back home, they loved it.
